The Nosler Cartridge Family

Like many shooting enthusiasts, the Nosler family has always dreamed of introducing a new rifle cartridge to the industry; that time is finally here with the arrival of the 26 Nosler®.

The goal of the new 26 Nosler® cartridge was to introduce something to the shooting sports industry that took full advantage of new technology available to shooters including the advance of optics, reticle systems and of course high Ballistic Coefficient (B.C.) bullets such as the AccuBond® Long Range line. We now have a cartridge that pushes old boundaries to new limits.

The 26 Nosler® cartridge was designed to take advantage of the inherently accurate and high B.C. 6.5mm (.264) caliber bullets, and is capable of shooting the 129gr Nosler® AccuBond® Long Range (ABLR) and 130gr AccuBond® bullets at a blazing 3400 fps out of the muzzle. Zeroed at 350 yards, the 26 Nosler® has a Point Blank Range of 0-415 yards. Loaded with the 129gr ABLR, the 26 Nosler® retains as much velocity at 400 yards as the 260 Remington® produces at the muzzle.

The 26 Nosler® case is non-belted, thus head-spaced o of the shoulder to further enhance accuracy. The “26” also utilizes a standard (30-06) length action meaning shorter bolt-throw and lighter weight than magnum length actions.

I really feel the 26 Nosler® has great value among the large family of SAAMI® cartridges. With minimal recoil, tremendous velocity, energy and the ability to point and shoot at the intended target up to a quarter mile away, this is the quintessential deer, antelope and long-range target cartridge available on the market today.

The Great 28

Field testing a new rifle, cartridge or bullet is one of the great events in the shooting sports business. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to take the first animal with our Nosler Ballistic Tip® and the first animal with our Nosler AccuBond® bullet. In addition, I took a fine antelope in New Mexico, which turned out to be the first animal taken with the wildcat 300 JRW, better known as the superb 300 Winchester Short Magnum.

This past fall, we were at the famous Deseret Ranch in Utah for mule deer and a chance to take the first animal with our latest cartridge, the 28 Nosler. The cartridge specifications are impressive. Nosler Trophy Grade ammunition loaded with 160 grain AccuBond bullets exit the barrel at a very real 3300 FPS. Now, that’s knock-down power!

After a few days of hunting, I was lucky enough to have a nice buck in my sights at 384 yards. The Nosler Model 48 rifle topped with a Leupold® VX-6 worked perfectly, and you could hear the impact of the AccuBond all over the canyon. The bullet broke both front shoulders, and my string of first was safe.

Why “Nosler” cartridges?
When we had the fist meeting to discuss the possibility of developing a line of Nosler cartridges, we all agreed that we would not release any cartridge that could not out-perform the current field. To that end, the 26 and 28 Nosler cartridges have become legendary.

With our 2016 catalog, we are introducing the 30 Nosler, the new king of the family. Keeping with our mission to provide magnum performance in a standard length action, a 180 grain AccuBond moving at a solid 3,200 feet per second clearly outplays the field!

What’s more American than apple pie and baseball? 30 caliber. Introducing the new 30 Nosler® cartridge by popular demand. Sharing the same parent case as the 26 and 28 Nosler® cartridges, the 30 Nosler® takes all the best attributes of currently available 30 magnums and combines them all in one cartridge. The 30 Nosler® eclipses the velocity of the 300 Weatherby, headspaces off the shoulder like a 300 RUM, has an efficient powder column like that of the 300 WSM and is in the same standard length action of a 300 Winchester Magnum while allowing for an additional 200 fps at the muzzle making for the perfect 30 caliber cartridge.
