This position begins as an “Introductory Trainee” for 60 consecutive days during which management will evaluate whether the employee is suited for the position. If the employee is determined to be suitable, status will then advance to "Regular Employee" on the first of the month following the 60-day introductory period and Company benefits will commence. Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

SUMMARY

The Machinist is tasked with machining tooling and components for production equipment, sawing material to size, deburring parts and operating tooling equipment associated with metal working. The Machinist will need to be familiar with operating manual equipment including lathes and mills. This position will also need to be familiar or have the ability to learn ID/OD grinding equipment. The Machinist will participate in manufacturing optimization and will have advanced blueprint reading skills. This position will need to be committed to maintaining a clean work environment. Teamwork focused mentality is essential.

Assignment could be on first, second, or third shift.  PLEASE NOTE:  If you are not available to be assigned to any shift, you will not be considered for this position.  A 10% differential pay applies to assignment on 2nd shift and 20% differential applies to assignment on 3rd shift.  Hourly rate is D.O.E.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Machining of tooling and components for production equipment
  • Sawing material to size
  • De-burring parts
  • Measuring parts
  • Operating manual machine tools including lathes, mills & honing machines
  • Operating ID/OD grinding equipment once proper job training has been completed.
  • Detecting worn or broken tools, changing inserts and tools
  • Presetting tooling
  • Indicate surfaces, dial in items chucked in lathes
  • Participate in manufacturing optimization, assist in work holding development, suggest program optimization, and detect needed changes in feeds/speeds by ear, eye, and feel.
  • Advanced blueprint reading is essential to being able to perform this job, as is keeping detailed notes regarding work performed.
  • Assembly of production equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a high school graduate, and possess good math skills; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.  Additionally, must be able to write clearly and communicate with ease.  Exceptional problem-solving skills and excellent eyesight with or without correction is required. 

The successful candidate must be an experienced operator of manual machine tools, including lathes and mills.  Additionally, excellent mechanical aptitude and the ability to use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gage, bore gages, etc.) are essential.  Must understand and expertly apply standard machine shop practices to include drilling, reaming, boring, threading, facing, sawing, file work, etc.  Must have experience holding exacting tolerances to .0002 and be capable of measuring to these tolerances.

The following experience would be a plus but are not required as we will provide on the job training: 

  • ID/OD manual grinding & honing
  • CNC grinding
  • EDM operation and electrode fabrication.
  • Writing and modifying CNC programs using G and M code and/or CAM software

Must be self-motivated, mature, and possess an excellent work ethic.  Among other attributes, the employee will be evaluated on their ability to stay busy and be productive without constant direction.

This individual will be expected to have their own hand tools and be willing to get dirty.  Job assignments may change depending on the needs of the company.

EDUCATION

The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Completed an apprenticeship or trade school program in machine shop practices and/or have a minimum of five years of current hands on experience in this field.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
