This position, as an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist (EHS Specialist), begins as an “Introductory Trainee” for 60 consecutive days during which time the CFO will evaluate whether the employee is suited for the position. If, at the conclusion of the “introductory” period, the Introductory Trainee is determined to be suitable for the job, status will then advance to “Regular Employee” beginning on the first of the month following the 60-day introductory period at such time Company benefits will commence.

 

Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

SUMMARY

The EHS Specialist position comprises of three main and equally important roles: Compliance, Leadership and Training. The EHS Specialist will be required to conduct regular inspections, generate health and safety assessment reports, ensure that all occupational guidelines and regulations are adhered to and train employees on safety policies and practices. The EHS Specialist should possess detailed knowledge of health and safety regulations and demonstrate strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate others to adhere to all health and safety policies and regulations. EHS Specialist should possess excellent communication and training skills and possess an acute eye for detail.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to lead and provide leadership in all areas involving Environmental, Health and Safety compliance
  • Able to collaborate with management team to define EHS goals and objectives
  • Ability to administer employee training programs including around health and safety policies and best practices and possess the knowledge base, or the ability to, within six months of hire, to become certified in providing training in these key areas:
    • Forklift and Scissor Lift training
    • Lockout/Tagout training
    • General Safety training including hazards associated with the manufacturing and production work environment, the use of PPE and SDS’s
      Able to evaluate existing EHS practices, processes, policies and training tools in order to implement changes related to evolving legal and rule requirements and to identify, design and implement
  • Able to conduct inspections and identify hazards and potential Environmental, Health and Safety violations
  • Able to provide solutions and intervention strategies for hygiene, health, and safety hazards
  • Able to implement new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Able to monitor operational processes and employee activities
  • Generate assessment documentation, incident and accident reports, and health and safety manuals
  • Able to generate reports to management, OSHA, DEQ and other regulatory agencies
  • Able to prepare and submit health and safety compliance documents to the relevant organizations
  • Knowledgeable in the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations and best practices\
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of a PC, commonly used software and the ability to learn new software

COMPLIANCE

  • Safety Committee Team Leadership:
    • Ensure regular and productive Safety Committee meetings
    • Plan, lead and coordinate Safety Committee meetings
    • Log and document Safety Committee minutes and activities
  • Fire Alarms:
    • Ensure regular Fire Alarm Testing is conducted and that the Fire Alarm system is working in all Company locations
    • Ensure continued certification of Fire Alarm system at all Company locations
  • Coordinate Annual Fire Drill
  • Fire Extinguishers:
    • Coordinate, with certified vendor, that all Company Fire Extinguishers at all Company locations are certified and in good working order
  • Back Flow Testing:
    • Coordinate with City or certified vendor
  • Administer all compliance related activities for the company, including but not limited to State Fire Marshall reporting and audit, DEQ, EPA, SAIF and OSHA, and industrial waste reporting and audits
  • Ensure annual application and renewal of Business Licenses
    • City of Bend
    • City of Redmond
    • State of Oregon
  • Coordinate bi-annual Testing Tunnel cleanout
  • Coordinate annual First Aid, CPR, AED training
  • Coordinate or lead annual dangerous goods training

WASTE STREAMS

  • Maintain and update SDS books
  • Regulatory reports – State Fire Marshall, DEQ Has Waste Report, EPA Release Report
    • CEG, SQG and/or LQG status and reporting
  • Identify and regulate all waste streams (filters, gloves, any changes, etc.)
  • Safety Kleen pickup and maintenance (or other vendors)
  • Metal recycling for trailer pick-up and reordering of boxes
  • Weekly inspections and purging of eye wash stations
  • Weekly inspection of hazardous waste storage area and sign off sheet
  • As they arise, participation in OSHA, DEQ, etc. inspections

MISC

  • Hearing Tests
    • Collaborating with Human Resources, help coordinate and ensure compliance with yearly hearing tests as required by OSHA

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, safety management, or similar preferred; or two-four years related experience and training or; equivalent combination of education, training and experience; A minimum of two years' experience as an EHS Specialist, Coordinator or similar role required
  • Strong familiarity and knowledge base involving OSHA, EPA and ANSI regulations; OSHA or similar EHS certification preferred
  • The ability to read and interpret safety data sheets
  • Strong leadership and training skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially in English
  • Acute attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Above average proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Adobe Acrobat
  • Physical ability includes standing, sitting and moving; pulling and grasping various items. Lifting duties range from less than one pound up to 35lbs.

COMPENSATION

 

Salary Range: $65,000-$85,000 D.O.E.
