The MSGR Department produces tooling and machine parts necessary for the Production of Nosler products, and the Grinding Machine Operator is responsible for using grinding machines and other tools to accomplish these tasks.  To be successful, it is necessary to work efficiently and to hold quality above all else.  Specific machines to be set up and operated include but are not limited to manual surface grinders, manual OD and ID grinders, manual hones, and cutoff machines.  Familiarity with and operation of conventional machine shop tools, and/or CNC grinding equipment is a plus.

The successful applicant must also be proficient with hand tools, bench work, lapping & polishing, presswork and assembly, fitting parts, and must excel at precision measurement using micrometers, optical comparators, bore gages, etc.

Advanced blueprint reading is essential to this job, including tolerances for sizing of fits between mating components, GD&T, and the use of trigonometry and other mathematical functions to derive additional information as needed.

Must be able to complete other tasks as necessary for basic Department function such as cleaning & maintenance of machinery, ordering supplies & materials, and marking up drawings for revision.

Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Nosler Inc is a federally regulated company that requires employees to have a clean background check and the ability to pass a drug screen including THC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be proficient at multi-tasking and be able to thrive in a world of changing priorities.

  • Must be able to read and interpret Engineering drawings to produce and inspect tooling; ensuring conformance to specifications

  • Select appropriate operations and tooling for the job to be done, to include grinding wheels, speeds, feeds, etc.

  • Set up and operate manual grinding equipment to produce high quality tooling made from carbide, high speed steel, heat treated tool steels, and other materials.

  • Check, clean, and maintain grinding equipment on a frequent basis to ensure functionality

QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduate (or G.E.D. equivalent) with preference given to those with continuing education in manufacturing or machine shop practices.

  • Documented hands-on experience performing a majority of the tasks outlined in this job description.

  • Good basic shop math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and basic trigonometry.

  • Must be able to write clearly and communicate with ease.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and the ability to use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gage, bore gages, comparators, etc.)

  • In addition to grinding, the employee must understand and apply standard machine shop practices to include drilling, reaming, boring, threading, facing, sawing, file work, etc.

  • Must have experience holding exacting tolerances to .0001” and be capable of measuring to these tolerances.

  • Self-motivated and possess an excellent work ethic.  

  • Job assignments may change depending on the needs of the company.

  • Regularly move/lift up to 30 – 40 lbs and occasionally lift up to 60 – 70 lbs.

  • Keep a safe, clean shop and work area.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
