This position as a Tooling Engineer begins as an "Introductory Trainee" for 60 consecutive days during which time the Supervisory staff will evaluate whether the employee is suited for the position.  If the employee is determined to be suitable for the job, status will then advance to "Regular Employee" on the first of the month following the 60-day introductory period.  Company benefits will then commence. Salary is D.O.E.

Additionally, the successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and maintain schedules for upcoming tooling jobs
  • Utilize schedules to create and manage tooling jobs for picksheets
  • Create and maintain tooling jobs for internal ordering of needed tooling
  • Work with supply chain management to order outsourced tooling and supplies
  • Pick & return tooling packages
  • Perform tooling inspections
  • Maintain the Manufacturing Services Center (MSC)
  • Learn existing systems for managing the MSC and expand / change it for continuous improvement
  • Accept and properly allocate deliveries and transfer inventory
  • Perform inventory audits
  • Build tooling die sets, set up, repair and trouble shoot all types of bullet and manufacturing machines
  • Will be required to perform thorough and accurate tooling changeovers, tooling replacement and troubleshoot any mechanical and pneumatic components of all machines and equipment
  • Fits and assembles parts to include punches, form dies and die sets by using a hone or other equipment
  • Fabricate parts or tooling for repairing machines
  • Utilize a hone to keep tight tolerances on tooling for correct fits
  • Utilize hand and power tools including mills and lathes to fabricate required components for machine repair /improvements
  • Assembles dies, punch sets and inspects all tooling to print tolerances
  • Performs press set-ups to meet the quality standards for the product being manufactured
  • Assembles and test operates machine to verify correction of malfunction
  • Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment
  • Updates pick sheets and set ups for efficient product change over on all presses
  • Maintains press set up books for precision set ups
  • Sizes, builds and prepares tooling for upcoming products
  • Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair
  • Thoroughly understand and interpret engineering drawings, set up information & product schedule
  • Assist the Manufacturing Engineering team on process improvement projects
  • Assist the Physical Plant team with plant improvement projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience using a wide variety of hand tools and power tools
  • Experience with tooling / tool crib mechanics
  • Ability to perform physical, dimensional inspections on mechanical components using scales, calipers, micrometers, etc…
  • A High Degree of organization & keen attention to detail
  • Effective and professional communications (written and oral) skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced Root Cause Problem Solving
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to ensure that equipment, and fiscal resources are utilized in the most efficient manner
  • High level of analytical skill to develop a range of possible solutions to address a wide range of issues
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage employee engagement

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

BS in Engineering or equivalent Tooling Certification.
